Bangalore, Aug 4: With more MBBS seats likely to come under the State Government quota, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will commence third round of counselling for under-graduate medical seats soon.
The third round of counselling for filling up the MBBS seats coming under the Government quota will be held in a couple of days, Karnataka’s Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patiltold reporters in Bangalore on Monday.
The date for the third round of counselling will be decided by KEA shortly, he said.
The KEA had allotted 2300 under-graduate medical seats under the government quota in 2014.
As of now, a total of 22 seats are available for the third round of counselling.
A few medical colleges are expecting sanction of more medical seats and seats available under the government quota would be allotted for students in the third round, the minister said.
TheKarnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2006, would be implemented from next (2015) academic year.
To allay fears about hike in fees and reduction of seats under the government quota, the department has convened a meeting on August 7.
Leaders of all political parties would attend the meeting being held under the chairmanship of Higher Education R V Deshpande, he said.
Based on the discussions, the State Government would amend the Act of 2006.
The minister said the StateGovernment was planning to operate OPEC super speciality hospital in Raichur by roping in the services of top Bangalore-based government hospitals such as Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health.
Doctors of the super-speciality hospitals would be asked to visit OPEC Hospital for one or two days in a week for provide medical treatment for poor patients, Patil said.
