Margao, Aug 22: A sixty-year-old woman, Chovlava Rathod, a native of Dothiwada-Karnataka, was allegedly beaten to death by her son-in-law Indrajit Kodbole (40) at Sanvarkatte-Cuncolim, on Tueday afternoon.
According to Salcete DYSP Tony Fernandes, the incident took place when the daughter of the victim had gone to get her child from the school. By taking advantage of her absence, the accused Kodbole entered the house and demanded money from the mother-in-law. Her refusal might have led to a tiff, leading to his beating her up to death.
On a tip that the accused has fled out of state, a special team of Police has gone to Nagpur to nab him.
The accused was a vendor and he used to sell vegetables near the Konkan Railway Station. The police suspect that he may have fled the city immediately by boarding a train.
The wife of the accused told the police that her husband had fled with Rs 20,000 after killing her mother.
The Cuncolim police are pursuing the case.
