'Lateef...' makers upset over censor board's objection

Mumbai. Aug 2 (IANS): The producer and director of “Lateef - The King of Crime”, a film based on the Gujarat mafia of the late 1980s, are upset that the Central Board of Film Certification has objected to their promoting the movie on TV due to a specific dialogue related to Gujarat.

The movie has released but its makers faced trouble in getting their 20-second trailer passed, and they can't promote it on TV due to the objection.

Producer Kewal Krishna said in a statement: "We were geared to run promos on TV during the movie release. We approached the censor board and there was a cut. Then on July 23, we tried again. The order was passed and we received it on July 27. The film was released on Aug 1."

However, they did not get a chance to run promos, causing losses.

"What’s wrong with dialogues 'Yeh Gujarat Hain “and "Lateef maut se nahi darta hai, maut Lateef se darti hai"? The dialogues are part of the movie and censor has no objection over it. The film was passed, why not the promo?”

Director Sharique Minhaj feels that the act “shows narrow mindedness of the board".
