Udupi, Jul 30: A KSRTC volvo bus making trips between Mangalore and Manipal, which was trying to overtake a vehicle, hit a truck moving from Hubli to Mangalore on the evening of Tuesday July 29.
After hitting the truck, the bus went out of control of its driver, scraped through roadside trees, trampled upon big bushes, before coming to a halt among thick vegetation. The incident occurred near Kamath Petrol Bunk, Gulnadikatte in Padubidri.
A major portion of the outer protective cover of the bus got peeled off in the incident and almost all the 40 passengers, including Ramadath couple and Suchala, suffered injuries of different degrees. With great difficulty, the passengers were removed from the bus by opening hydraulic doors after considerable time and leading them out of the growth of bushes also proved difficult.
Passengers, who accused the driver of rash driving expressed surprise at the fact that the bus did not have mandatory emergency exit in the middle as per the government orders. Padubidri police rushed to the spot and helped the passengers. Most of the passengers luckily suffered minor injuries like nicks, cuts and bruises.
