Panaji, Aug 16: Eighteen-year-old Music DJ and son of a builder, Mandar Surlakar, who was kidnapped from a busy locality by a group of youth demanding ransom from his father was found dead on the roadside in North Goa on Tuesday evening.
Police have arrested three of his friends, who have confessed to the crime, and search is on for two more, who are absconding. Mandar Surlakar was kidnapped from Miramar and later phone calls demanding ransom were made to his father.
Police found his dead body at Keri with hands and legs tied.
Kidnapping of a teenager and his murder allegedly by his friend has shocked the state with opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blaming state police for their inefficiency.
Mandar Surlakar, 18-year-old son of a renowned builder and a DJ, was kidnapped from a busy locality of Miramar beach, 5 kms away from Panaji on Monday. Police claimed that he was taken away by his own friends and later the telephoned Mandar's father seeking ransom of Rs 50 lac. They also threatened to kill Mandar, if police were informed.
Mandar's body was traced at an isolated spot last evening, 40 kms away from here on the periphery of Ponda town. It was identified by his uncle.
Police stated that three of Mandar's friends were immediately arrested, who have confessed to the crime. Two more are at large and would be behind bars soon police stated.
The three accused confessed that they did this to extract money from Mandar's father, who is a well known builder. Police were yet to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, opposition BJP on Wednesday termed the Kidnapping and killing as an example of deteriorating law and order situation in the state. "A few inefficient police officers who are at the helm of affair are running the show. It's a time we need to think seriously on our law and order," leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar said.
Parrikar castigated chief minister Pratapsingh rane, who according to him, has forgotten that he is holding Home portfolio.
