Bantwal, July 26: "Freedom of press is the specialty of democracy. It is possible to form a better society when newspapers operate
independently and for development," said A B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new office and renovated press club of Bantwal region journalist's sangha. "The sight of the journalists should be unique in that they should make the society aware of the positive and negative points." He hoped that the Bantwal Press Club, operating in the building provided by the Taluk Panchayat may soon shift to its own building in the days to come.
District in-Charge minister B Ramanath Rai, said, "There is a scarcity of sincerity in the society and when journalists highlight sincerity, it will be possible to develop more sincere people," he said. He also said that journalists who inform about the ups and downs of society should perform their duties with courage.
District Journalist's Association president P B Harish Rai who presided over the programme, said, "In this era of competition within the media, journalists hesitate to answer questions on justice." He congratulated the Bantwal Taluk Panchayat for having provided a suitable building for their office and requested the district administration to provide a site for the office.
