Panaji, Aug 14: Two persons were drowned while four went missing as waves washed them away at Calangute Beach in north Goa on Sunday evening, police said.

Two others who were also swept away with the tide were rescued by locals and rushed to Goa Medical College Hospital, where their condition was stated to be critical.

The tourists belonged to three different groups from Kerala, Pune and Delhi, they said.

Life guards posted by the tourism department at the beach are on an indefinite strike for last two days, police said.

While two bodies were recovered, searches were on for the missing four, police added.
