Mangalore, Jul 11: ‘Vikasa’, the association of teachers of Mangalore University for text book publication, released seven Kannada textbooks for the students of Mangalore University at Ravindra Kalakshetra, University College, Hampankatta on Thursday July 10.

Professor Kaalegowda Nagavara was the chief guest at the book release who appreciated the work of the association in publishing the textbooks.

He said, “It is a happy moment to see teachers preparing text books for students. Its easier for a teacher to teach the students with the textbooks that he or she has prepared. With these text books, efforts have been made to provide variety in Kannada literature to the students.”

“We should accept our students as our friends. Current students know many aspects apart from what we teach in class. Hence, being friends, we can learn a lot of things from them,” added professor Nagavara.

The vice-chancellor of Mangalore University professor K Bhairappa assured the help of the varsity in future endeavours of the teachers’ association.

He said “If there is no literature in society, then there is no life. Life becomes mechanical in its absence. Hence, the teachers’ association has done a wonderful job by publishing the text books.”

“Since this will be the 25th year of the department of publication of the university, more activities should be conducted to make this memorable. I assure all kind of support to the teachers in this regard,” added professor Bhairappa.

Principal of the college professor Satyanarayana, professor Nagappa Gowda, the executive editor and professor Sabeeha, the chief editor of the books were present on the occasion.

Vikasa publishes only Kannada textbooks for the students of the colleges under the university and has published textbooks in the previous year for first year students and the textbooks published on Thursday are for the students of second year.

In the process of publishing the textbooks, it has conducted several meetings of the teachers of all the three districts under the university and has received appreciation from the educationists of various districts.
