Udupi, Jul 7: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Tulukuta, Udupi organized a 'Tulu-Minadana Odipu-2014,' on Sunday July 6 at Sushila Padmanabha Upadyaya Vedike, Government Girls Pre-University College here.
Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji, Pejavar Mutt said in his inaugural speech, "Unless the language is used effectively, we cannot accumulate the culture and the rich heritage of India. Literature can be cultivated in the society if a colloquial language is used."
He added that Vedavyasa was the father of the nation and Gandhiji was a great son of India.
He released the Tulu translation of the Mahabharata by scholar S Devendra Pejattaya saying that it was a great contribution to Tulu literature.
He received an appeal by Tulukuta, Udupi which said that Tulu language should be treated as a state language. He promised of discussing the matter with the higher authority.
"It is proud to see NRIs contributing to Tulu literature," said Vinay Kumar Sorake, the urban development minister.
Janaki Brahmavar presided over the programme. Seminars, poets’ meet, Tulu plays and Tulu cultural programmes were also conducted.
Vasanti Shetty, poet, Amshumali, Gangadhar Kediyoor, Sulochana Shetty, G R Rashmita, C Santosh, Dayananda, G S Nagaraj and Dayananda Shetty were some of the poets who participated in the meet.
Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Gangadhar Kidiyur, Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA Udupi, Chandrahasa Rai, Nagaraj, department of NSS, Udupi, Upendra Nayak, president of ZP, Udupi, Radhamani, principal of Government Girls' Pre-University College and others were present.
