Bangalore: Siddu invited to Sweden to study solid waste management

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jul 1: Sweden’s Ambassador to India Herald Sandberg invited Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Sweden to showcase its latest technology in solid waste management and urban transport system to the State Government.

Sandberg, who called on the Chief Minister in his office in VidhanaSoudha on Tuesday, extended the invitation to visit Sweden from August 17 to 21.

The Ambassador met Siddaramaiah at the latter’s office in the State Secretariat and discussed various industry related issues in the presence of Commerce and Industry department officials.

World’s largest bus and truck manufacturers such as Volvo and Scania are based in Sweden. Moreover, Sweden has developed technology to manage solid waste.

Various Swedish companies such as ABB, SKF, Astra Zeneca, Hennes&Mauritz, Volvo Trucks, SSAB and the more recent Scania have chosen Bangalore over other places to start their business.

There are about 170 Swedish companies established their operations in India.

Siddaramaiah said he would visit Sweden and make every attempt to attract investment to the State.

The State has decided to hold a Global Investors’ Meet in Bangalore on February 2015 to attract investment in various sectors of the economy.

Karnataka has enough of talented Engineers who where generated from our International standard educational Institutions to plan the waste management system. Why should we depend on Sweden, we should make efforts and encourage through our government schemes our own talents to solve such problems within our country instead of depending on foreign companies and they are always business minded to take away our currencies to their countries. This will be an opening for job opportunities where we are facing job scarcity in INDIA.

    @Eulalia D'Souza, Mangalore.

It is really shameful that our brainless bureaucrats travel abroad at taxpayer's expense studying agriculture, infrastructure, and now this solid waste management system and returning empty headed.

People of Karnataka must protest this visit by CM, and compel him to find out the best sources available withing our country itself to manage our destiny rather than going abroad and trying to bring in some outdated technology (kick backs??).

Any simple Indian will be proud to tell the strides Indians have made in the fields mentioned above, that can be utilised effectively, thereby creating more opportunities for all Indians.

As you rightly said, previous tours by our uneducated MPs and MLAs have been a total failure, and we cannot afford to commit this same mistake again.

I must also stress with you that the need of the hour is to fix all problems at our coastal region on a war footing.

    Jai Hind.

Sweden or Germany or whichever advanced nation is not a problem. No need of spending money on studies.CM must first learn western customs/manners before attending studies. Important is to make the persons on pay-roll do their jobs. In India itself there are cities where the waste management. No need of going abroad. If India can invent missiles for a fraction of costs then our Engineers can anytime master the waste management system without foreign help. We have to only control corruption. Siddu does not need to go far for this.

In between CM and Office boy there are lots of qualified professionals/subject matter experts such as environmental scientists/ Engineers in the hierarchy who deserve to sent abroad for study tours. Reminds me of Deve Gowda’s (then PM) GI 15 tour at Harare who not only continued his infamous habit of falling asleep during meetings also reported to have shot an ‘intelligent’ question to the tour guide in front of Victoria falls “ Don’t you have any river water dispute ?”

We can always learn simple and proven methods from others. Let our politicians also learn how to construct good roads without pocketing tax payers money! Here no political party is an exception!!

How about Siddu visiting Mangalore Coastal city and other Coastal Cities to study Sea Erosion and poor people living there loosing houses n livelihood ..!! Let us start learning about what is the need of the hour rather than travel to Sweden for study on Solid Waste management.
Come on, dont we have enough Engineers and Scientists in India who will be able to manage this issue? It is only mind set of our Corrupt Politicians that they do not want to take up any concrete solution to our grievances. Stop spending our Tax Payer's Money to enjoy life in the name of Study Tours.
I remember a couple of years ago, a Team of Politicians from Karnataka / Bangalore went to France to study on Sea Erosion. Can I ask what has happened after that? Sea erosion continues and our ministers wake up only after enough damage is done to local people.
Lets manage other problems of our state first and then travel on a paid holiday in the pretext of " STUDY " tour..!!

..better apply RTI,get information and file PIL..sea erosion is fit case..every year just for temporary solution Ministers visit foreign countries & Govt spends in crores..why cant these minister do interstate visits..some states are very well in tourism, some in social development, some in Industrial development..Vist will be inexpensive, boost friendship with state & can avoid skirmish..Its funny to know that recently our ministers visited western countries to learn dairy farming, traffic management, tourism development..

    Dear Eulalia,
A very good question you have raised.
This issue pertains to Bangalore and not Mangalore. There are enough of representatives in Mangalore to solve Mangalore issues.
When initiation is taken to do something good that has to be appreciated. The garbage issue of blore city was raised during the period of previous management which did nothing except internal conflicts for power. The present management is trying to solve the problem.
A good leader always attends the meetings ,conferences , study tours first ,then he deputes his representatives if necessity arises.
If an opportunity creeps up for you to attend a study tour abroad on travel will you send your office boy?
The tax payers money is utilised for the developmental works. If developments has to be made study has to be conducted. When somebody has invited for it to help us and guide us to solve our problem why not accept the invitation and attend and implement for the purpose. So let us expect the best results out of this study tour.
    Have a pleasant day.

"Unquote - but a crash course in "How to root out corruption" - This seminar to specifically highlight the facts of how the "Garbage contractors in tandem with the Politicians and corporators of BBMP" have ensured Bangalore turning into a Stinking Garbage dump." - This Government as well as t he earlier one does not want technology or modern environment friendly methods of garbage disposal as it is the scavenge and human heavy disposal methods that rake in the moolah.
