Panaji: Cornered by the opposition in the state legislative assembly, education minister Luizinho Faleiro had to admit his department's failure in distributing textbooks to the students.
Faleiro stated that the government faced massive trouble in distribution of text books to the students in the state.
Replying to a question in the state legislative assembly, Faleiro attributed trouble to the education department's lack of experience in distributing books. "I admit on the floor of the house that inspite of the best efforts department could not supply books to the schools in time," the minister said.
The opposition benches led by leader of opposition, Manohar Parrikar, pointed out unjustified delays in distributing books and free raincoats to the students. The opposition benches wondered whether government will provide the raincoats after rains are over.
The minister stated that the final proposal under center government funded sarva shiksha abhiyaan was through only on May 16, this year, following which the tenders were given for publishing text books.
"Next academic year, we will make sure that the books would be distributed in time," Faleiro stated.
