Mangalore, Jun 27: J Crasta, chairman of CM Group of Companies and ex-president of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been awarded doctorate by Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevraya University, Bellary, in recognition of his services to the MSME sector.
J Crasta is also a member in SME, under the PMO. Professor Manjappa D Hosmane, the vice-chancellor of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University honoured him and conferred the doctorate on Wednesday June 25, in the presence of professor K Vijayakumar, registrar, ex-chief justice Rama Joys and Professor L R Naik, registrar.
J Crasta is on the board of many educational and research institutions such as Indian Institute of Plantation Management, CMR Group of Institutions, member in the vision group of Karnataka and so on. He is consistently representing the industry as a spokesperson in the state and the central government trade bodies for bringing reforms in the SME’s sector of India.
This award confirms his contribution as a member and the head of the numerous trade and commerce bodies, as a person behind the introduction of the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for medium and small-scale enterprise and for the years of service for the welfare of small and medium scale industry.
Hailing from the coastal town of Kinnigoli near Mangalore, Crasta grew up in a pristine country side, nurtured with genuine affiliation for environment, inculcated with values and ethics of life by his parents, what gradually moulded him as a multifaceted and a delightful personality what he is today.
A postgraduate in Organic Chemistry from Mysore University, J Crasta began his career as a lecturer and later worked as a Senior Sales Executive in Mumbai. That was when he empowered as an entrepreneur starting his own company, C M Equipment & instrument India Pvt Ltd in the year 1981 pioneering the manufacturing of environmental simulation testing systems in India. Three decades after, this company has made a mark in the global market and was subsequently renamed as CM Envirosystems Pvt Ltd.
Married to Rita in 1977, they have two sons, Prajwal and Praveen who after completing their education are presently heading two divisions of their enterprises C M Envirosystems Pvt Ltd and LSquare Eco-Products Pvt Ltd.
