Mangalore, Jul 23: Following the High Court order on a ban on mechanised fishing, a ban has been enforced in Karnataka.

The SC ordered ban on mechanised fishing in all western coast states from Jun 10 to Aug 15, for 65 days with immediate effect.

Meanwhile the court has revoked the ban order on mechanised fishing (for 48 days) issued by Karnataka government on May 4.

However, it has exempted the country boats fitted with outboard engines from this.

This move has been welcomed by the state traditional country boat fishermen’s federation.

While states like Maharastra and Gujarat have imposed ban on mechanised fishing for 65 days, Pursene fishing has been completely banned in Kerala. But in Karnataka, the ban has been reduced to 48 days.
