Mangalore, Jul 23: The Billava Community has demanded the government to provide 27 per cent reservation for backward communities in higher education institutions.

In a press release the Akhila Bharatha Billawara Union has stated unless the Mandal Commission recommendations are implemented the backward communities will be victims of injustice.

In its letter to the Union minister for human resource Arjun Singh, the Billavara Union has stated that the reservations should be implemented from the present academic year. For this a law must be passed to implement the reservation in private sector also.

The Union also demanded the amendment of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
