Kasargod, June 21: The sea erosion on coast of the district has increased in intensity. Several meters of land in Kasaba Kadappura,
Light House, Nellikunje and such other places has become a part of the ocean.
The house of C M Abdulla near Light house collapsed. A part of the house belonging to Prasad in Kasaba Kadappura has also collapsed. A coconut tree fell on the house of Nasser at Light House and caused heavy loss.
The nearby houses of Moidin Kunhi and Asyumma are in impending danger. The thunder storm coupled with heavy rains has caused large scale destruction. The sea erosion has made the locals all the more anxious.
Hundreds of houses in the coastal regions of Uppala, Kumble and Kasargod are in grave danger due to erosion. Several meters of land is merged with the sea. Several coconut trees and other trees have become also been destroyed. The thunder storms have damaged agricultural lands and houses in the district.
There are reports of houses collapsing; the sheets covering the Kumble market are destroyed due to the heavy breeze and thunder storm on Thursday June 19 evening; however the fishermen had a narrow escape.
Coconut, banana and rubber cultivation over several parts of the district had to bear the brunt of thunder storms.
