Udupi, Jul 22: The state government has given permission in principle to allot 1,200 acres of land to Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd for establishing tidal power project near Padubidri here.

This was announced in a press conference by deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj on Friday July 21.  He further said that land has been allotted as per the notification issued for acquiring 2,000 acres of land in 1998 by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

Out of the 2,000 acres of land acquired Nagarjuna thermal project has been given 600 acres of private land and 75 acres of government land.  Another 100-150 acres of land is yet with the government, he added.

Senior manager of Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd M Alim said that necessary machinery for the project will be developed in America and China.  The project will be established in Nandikur, Palimar, Nadsal and Hejamadi (partly) areas near Padubidri. The project will be initiated in Mulur by purchasing 100-150 acres of land.  In the later stages this unit will turned into Rotor Blade joining unit, said he.

The first phase of the project will be started at a total expences of Rs 1,000.  A total of 4,000 people will get job during the construction period out of which more than 2,000 would directly get job in the company, he added.
