Mangalore, Jul 22: The Karnataka High Court postponed its hearing on reservation for mayoral election of MCC to Monday July 24.

As per the existing circumstances, mayoral elections should be held by Monday July 31.  But if the elections have to take place at least on July 31, notification has to be issued by July 24.  But now that the High Court has postponed hearing, it is all likely that the mayoral elections will be held on in the first week of August.

Since the advocate general of the state government had to go to Delhi on some official work, he could not attend the court proceedings on Friday July 21.  So extra time was asked from the High Court.

Meanwhile, advocates of plaintiff Vijay Arun, corporator, argued that if the hearing is delayed, the mayoral elections too will have to be delayed. They also argued that there are chances that the government may issue notification for elections.

It was only after the government gave a written assurance that it will not issue notification for election till Monday that the hearing was postponed.
