Mangalore, Jul 21: District Principal and Sessions Court Judge H M Bharatesh on Thursday July 20, sentenced one Ganeshan to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, for the murder of Namashivaya, over a water dispute on May 26, 2005.
The fight between Namashivaya and Ganeshan took place at Srilankan Tamil refugees colony near Kavu, Puttur. Namashivaya who had come near a public tap in the colony to fill water, told Ganesh that since he (Ganesh) had already filled water in the morning, should now allow Namashivaya to fill water. Angered at this, Ganesh at an instance took out a knife he had with him and pierced it through Namashivaya, who could not sustain the injury, and later died in the hospital.
