Beltangady, Jun 13: A youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances here on Friday June 13.

The deceased has been identified as Mahesh (24), son of Manjappa, a resident of Padubettu.

Sources said that Mahesh died late night on Thursday June 12, but the incident came to light on Friday. It is not known why he left from home at night, though sources said he was going to catch fish.

Initially it was suspected that he was electrocuted after coming into contact with a trap that was laid for pigs.

However, a sharp weapon found near the body led locals to suspect that he might have been murdered. Moreover, there were wounds on his shoulder which further strengthened the suspicion. A torch was also found at the spot.

Mahesh was a coolie.
