Bangalore, Jun 12: All village accountants in Karnataka are in for a pleasant but hi-tech surprise with the Siddaramaiah regime deciding to give them free laptops.
The State Government decided to distribute laptops for the village accountants as they were finding it difficult to record the details manually.
Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad said that the supply of laptops would enable village accountants to record all land related documents and even issue land related and other certificates faster.
Owing to manual work, there has been delay in the issue of certificates to farmers which resulted in delay in submission of applications for crop insurance, crop loan, compensation and other schemes, he said.
However, the minister has not given any deadline for distribution of laptops.
The minister said that a cabinet sub-committee would meet on Friday to frames rules under the new Land Acquisition, 2013, of the Centre.
After the finalization of the report by the Cabinet sub-committee, the State Cabinet would meet in the evening and approve new rules.
Under the new rules, compensation for land acquisition in rural and urban areas would be increased four times and two times, respectively.
Compensation would be given as per the guidance value, the minister said.
Prasad said the Government will launch a special drive to dispose of "Podi" land cases in the next six months. "Podi" land refers to revenue land of which farmers have no land records.
