Bhatkal, June 12: The death of more than 15 falcons and crows in Kadwad village of Karwar created panic among the villagers.

It is suspected that birds died after consuming poisonous food. The falcons that are generally found in the western ghats were found to have died in large numbers. Apart from this, a grey kite and few crows too were found dead.

The villagers stated that the falcons started falling from the trees and foam started to come out of their mouths. They suspected that someone must have fed the birds flesh mixed with poison, thus leading to their death.

Forest officer Manjunath Navi said that the falcons died after eating poison.

The birds have been sent to the laboratory and the exact reason for their death will be known only after the report is out.
