Doha: KSQ talent search for kids sees record participation

Doha, Jun 11: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) organized its popular annual event 'Children Talent Search – 2014' recently for children hailing from state of Karnataka at Al Jazeera Academy and Al Maha Academy. The event that was held over three weekends received overwhelming response this time with more than 200 children taking part in seven cultural and three sports events, thus creating a record in KSQ’s history.

Drawing, team quiz, cinematic singing, cinematic dancing, fancy dress, fashion show and elocution competitions were held on May 23 and 30 at Al Maha Academy.

Ravindran, P S Pai, Vikas Bhoir, Reena Castelino, Sowmya Shetty, Lakshmi Venkat, Seetha Menon and Sara Joyce Mascarenhas were the judges for various events. Indoor sports events comprising carrom, chess and table tennis competitions were held on May 30 at Al Jazeera Academy.

A grand finale involving prize distribution ceremony was held on June 6 at the same venue. The evening began with magic show by Shamsher and his team. The hour-long magic show was well received by the audience, especially by children. The main attraction of the day was 'Team Quiz' competition, for which the six finalists were selected from a qualifying written round. The event was organized in a very professional manner and it was appreciated by one and all. Winners of dancing and singing categories from the previous weekend performed again for the audience.

Addressing the gathering, president Deepak Shetty highlighted the effort of KSQ in promoting talent amongst children hailing from Karnataka residing in Qatar. Taking a step ahead, KSQ this year felicitated 10 children for doing exceedingly well in the field of academics (school/subject toppers), sports, Maths Olympiad and and for representing Qatar in international events.

K M Varghese, chairman of ICC advisory board, N S Hegde, MD, Intermodal Services were the chief guests. Addressing the gathering, Varghese lauded the efforts of KSQ in keeping the community together by organizing many events throughout the year, that has made KSQ one of the premier organisations affiliated to ICC. N S Hegde congratulated the children for taking part in such events.

Winners were presented with a trophy, a gift voucher and a certificate. All the children who participated in the talent search were also given gifts by KSQ.

Arvind Patil, former president of KSQ, chairman of ISD and general secretary of ICBF, Ravi Shetty, president Tulu Koota, Divakar Poojary, president, Qatar Billavas, Prakash Ajila, vice-president of Bunts Qatar, Seetharam Shetty, Ramachandra Shetty, Arun Kumar and Prabhakar, past presidents of KSQ, office-bearers and members of KSQ, and other Karnataka-based organisations were also present during the ceremony.

Manjunath Rao and H K Madhu were the comperes, while ladies coordinator Hema Lakkappa proposed the vote of thanks. Nagesh Rao, vice-president, and Mahesh Gowda, general secretary were on the dais.
