Panaji, Jun 14: Goa government will rehabilitate the scrap-yards existing within various municipal limits by shifting them outside the municipal limits, urban development minister, Joaquim Alemao, told state legislative assembly on Friday afternoon.

In a written reply to a question on the floor of the house, Alemao stated that all the scrap yards shifted outside municipal limits would be rehabilitated by Goa-government run Goa state urban development agency.

The minister informed the house that around 70 (seventee) scrap yards were operating in different municipal jurisdiction. "The government issued direction to close down the unauthorized scrap yards operating within the municipal limits located in the close vicinity of residential locality in May 2005," Alemao said.

He said that the municipal councils have closed down 56 scrap yards operating within the municipal limits.
