Udupi, Jul 8: The Udupi police conducted mob operation drills at End Point on Friday July 7 as part of continuing training exercises.
A total of 120 policemen drawn from various police stations of the district participated in the exercise and were made to perform the drills as per the procedures laid out.
Often it is noticed that on the field when there is a huge rioting mob, in the confusion and din, most of the drills are left out and this has been a major reason why even policemen end up as casualties. These exercises emphasize on co-ordination and team work and how to work in tandem. They also stress on the sequence of use of force and the principles governing them.
It was also an opportunity to the men to test their skills on the usage of tear smoke munitions and the proper way of lathi charge. The Rapid Intervention vehicle which was supplied to the district in January this year was also test fired for the first time and is working well.
