Mangalore: Congress offers tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

Mangalore, May 21: The members of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee observed the death anniversary of ex-Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi, here on Wednesday May 21 at the district Congress office.

The district Congress committee president, district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai offered a garland to the photo of Rajiv Gandhi; other leaders too offered a floral tribute to the same.


During his presidential address, Ramanath Rai said, "Rajiv Gandhi had big dreams for the future of our country and has stood as an icon and a support for the youth. Amendments to the Panchayath Raj Act stands as one of the greatest works by Rajiv Gandhi and his administration."

He salid that Rajiv was a great leader who initiated many people- friendly projects and thus was a gift to the society. He also gave up his life for the harmony and peace of our country.

"Rajiv Gandhi indeed played a very important role in the development of our country, especially under the financial lines. He faced a major allegation during those days, but got a clean chit for the same after his death," he added.

Rai said, "Rajiv was for the poor and the needy at all times. The Congress will always follow his ideology, teachings and footsteps."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla, leaders G A Bawa and women wing leader Mamatha Gatti also spoke on the occasion and offered their tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.

All the members who had gathered for the meet offered their condolences to the departed soul of the veteran Congress leader Gangadhar Pangal.

Ibrahim Kodijal welcomed the gathering.

Leaders Rathikala, Sadashiva Ullal, Padmanabh Naringana, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Ashok D K, Vishwas das, Appilatha, Nazeer Bajal and others were present on the occasion.
