Mangalore, May 20: A total of 14 candidates were elected unopposed from various co-operative societies that operate under the ambit of SCDCC ( South Canara District Central Co-operative)Bank on Monday May 19 as directors of the administrative board with returning officer Ajith Kumar Hegde acknowledging their stature as board directors.
The elections for the post of president and vice-president of the board will be held on Monday May 26. There are about 22 candidates in the fray.
Addressing reporters at SCDCC Bank conference hall, the election officer and commissioner of MCC Ajith Kumar Hegde said that the candidates were elected unopposed from different co-operative societies. "The tenure of the position is five years. A total of 11 elected are from primary agriculture co-operative societies across Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. While taluks like Kundapur, Udupi and Mangalore accommodate two directors each, one seat each goes to Sullia, Puttur, Karkala, Beltangady and Bantwal taluks. The other three directors are elected from taluk agricultural produce market co-operative societies, urban co-operative banks, non-agricultural co-operative societies and other societies," he said.
"The election for the director post was announced on May 8 2014 following which 24 candidates filed their nominations. Some nominations were rejected for various reasons. The candidates were elected unopposed. The candidates were elected according to the rules 14G (2) and (3) under form number 19 in circumstances where there were no contenders to compete with," added Hegde.
