Margao, Jul 2: For first time ever in the history of Konkani field, a bulk of 118 youth registered themselves as members of Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) on the occasion of 114th birth anniversary of late Pedru Corrie Afonso, founder president of KBM, on June 29 and were administered the oath that they will preserve Konkani language and its identity.

All the newly-enlisted members are from the field of art, music, tiatr, and social work. They were sworn in by Goa Konkani Akademi president Pundalik Naik.

The 118 youth who joined as members of KBM, on the occasion of late Pedru Corrie Afonso would become the torchbearers of Konkani field and would fulfil all the dreams to take the palanquin of Konkani to greater heights, said KBM vice president Serafin Cota.

As 118 youth joined on a single day on the occasion of Afonso birth anniversary, the day will be written in golden letters in the history of Konkani, said Pundalik Naik in his speech.

Though all the 118 youth have sworn to preserve konkani language and identity, they will also have the responsibility on their shoulders to work for betterment of society. The constructive unity power is not for any melee, but they will use it for betterment of Konkani language, said KBM President Purnanad Chari.
