ABU DHABI, Jul 2:  — Paid parking meters will be installed and operated from the next week, said Eng. Saif Ahmed Mohammed bin Butti, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Roads and Technical Services sector at the Abu Dhabi Municipality.

He told ‘Khaleej Times’ on Saturday that a deal had been signed with two German companies and a French company to supply and instal the meters. He added that the number of roadside car parkings in the area of East-Sector (8) that will be functional on a trial basis is more than 980 parking lots. He also pointed that the groundwork on the meters was completed, and the rest of the project related to construction works are soon to be completed.

Eng. Butti also clarified that a brochure was made to introduce citizens and residents of the area to the project, in addition to providing a membership card for the residents of the area at a discounted rate. An inquiry was prepared for customers and all users of the project to express their opinion and share all ideas of the biggest number possible of residents and citizens, who are going to benefit from this trial project.

The 54 machines and the technical teams will arrive in the capital without delay after the completion of the construction works, as it will be installed within two days from its arrival. On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi Municipality is offering free underground parking in the area of East-Sector (8) temporarily during roadwork to instal parking meters in the capital, where each car will be allowed to park for a maximum period of 48 hours at a time.
