Mumbai, Jun 29: Ricky Ponting won the Ceat International Cricketer of the Year (2005-06) award while his highly successful Australian team won the Team of the Year award.
Australia made a clean sweep of the international rating awards when Mike Hussey edged out India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni to clinch the Debutant of the Year award carrying, it was announced at a media conference today.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, the adjudicator for the awards, said the Indian players had a good chance of claiming next year's honours as the Australians were taking a three-month break from cricket and would be seen in action only from the October 7-November 5 ICC Champions Trophy.
For the first time since its inception a decade ago, the ratings have been expanded to include Indian domestic cricket, and specifically the performance of players in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group.
Mumbai all-rounder Ramesh Powar won the Ceat Domestic Cricketer of the Year award.
Tamil Nadu's S Badrinath won the corresponding best batsman award while top honours for the best bowler and most promising youngster were claimed by Uttar Pradesh's Praveen Kumar.
