Mangalore, May 8: The body of Shashank Srivastava (23) from Bangalore, who was a final year B Tech (civil engineering) student of NITK Suratkal, who had drowned at NITK beach on Tuesday evening, was recovered from NITK beach on Wednesday May 7. Shashank, who was in a jubilant mood, had ventured to the beach with nine of his classmates to celebrate having completed an important phase of his life successfully. Two of his friends had been rescued after having been washed away along with him. Personnel of the Coastal Security Force had also got involved with the work of searching for his body.
After conducting post mortem at Wenlock Hospital here, the body was taken by his family members to Bangalore.
It is learnt that Swatantra Kumar, father of Shashank, had shifted to Karnataka specifically for providing education to his children. He stays at Singapur Layout in Vidyaranyapura in Bangalore. Shashank is survived by parents and a brother. Shashank, who had attended his final examination on Tuesday, was a bright student, and he was to leave to Mysore the same night to attend a campus interview organized at Mysore the next day.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, AB Ibrahim, and tahsildar, Gururaj, paid last respects by visiting Wenlock Hospital on Wednesday. Suratkal station house officer, M A Nataraj, summoned the students who had accompanied Shashank to the beach, and warned them not to enter the waters of Arabian sea at this beach at any cost, and this area poses lot of risks.
