From Sanjay Borkar in Margao for Daijiworld News Network - Goa

Margao, Jun 27: All Goa Rickshaw and Taxi drivers action committee (AGRATAC) has served an ultimatum to state government to immediately roll back the decision of implementing digital meters to rickshaws and taxis, failing which AGRATAC would carry a morcha to the assembly house at Porvorim during the session.

AGRATAC had convened the meeting of all Goa taxi and Rickshaws drivers, at Lohia Maidan - Margao on Sunday. During the meeting labour union leader Christopher Fonseca and advocate Raju Mangeshkar were present as main speakers.

Transport minister Pandurang Madkaikar was trying to make money by implementing the digital meters, alleged Fonseca, speaking on the occasion.

Margao-Kranti Rickshaw driver Association President Abdul Salaskar told Daijiworld correspondent that if the government implemented installation of digital meters, taxi and rickshaw drivers would face high loss. Also such meters are not suitable in rainy season and also need extra battery to operate. The drivers would agitate till their demands were met.

AGRATAC will serve memorandum to all MLAs in the state, demanding scrapping of the implementation process of digital meters.
