Bangalore, May 5: Senior IAS Officer and former Principal Secretary in the Karnataka Government, M N Vidyashankar, has been appointed as the new president of the national electronics industry body, , India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
Vidyashankar, the 1982 batch IAS officer, had retired from service last year. He joined the IESA in New Delhi on Monday.
He has over 30 years of experience in management and administration of various government offices, autonomous bodies, boards and corporations and is serving on the board of various industry and academia committees.
The major positions held by him are as International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, and CEO of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).
The IESA is closely working with various stakeholders, including industry, academia and government.
''Vidyashankar is expected to play key role with all his experience and connect in industry and government,” IESA Chairman Ashok Chandak said.
IESA has been instrumental in pushing awareness about strategic importance of electronics manufacturing in the country.
It was IESA with Frost and Sullivan that measured potential of electronics market in the country and estimated to USD 400 billion by 2020.
Product development and manufacturing are going to be very important focus area. Last 20 years we have been talking about services.
''We will see, read and hear more about development more about manufacturing on product in the next 5 to 10 years,” Vidyashankar said after taking charge of his new position, and said: '' We will come out with roadmap on it soon.”
He said Taiwan and Japan are looking to invest in India in a big way and IESA will look at promoting collaborations to encourage electronics manufacturing in country.
