Mangalore, Apr 29: "New health centres will be set up Under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) in Dakshina Kannada district and the government will finalize the right time to inaugurate these centres in the coming months," said Karnataka minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar in a press conference here on Tuesday April 29.
"Seven new health centres will be built and three existing primary health centers will be upgraded. These health centers will be built in Suratkal, Kulai, Kunjatbail, Shaktinagar, Bundar, Padil, Jeppinamogaru, Bengre, Bolar-Jeppu and Kadri. Rs 45 lac required for the new health centres and Rs 10 lac for upgrading have been sanctioned. Doctors will be appointed from 9 am to 4 pm and 4 pm to 8 am. Three nurses, three auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), one lab technician, one pharmacist and other administrative staff will be appointed," he said.
"Five health kiosks will be opened in Mangalore and four in Ullal. A 30 bed capacity hospital will also be opened in Ullal. Rs 2.33 crore has been allotted by the central government for these works, out of which Rs 1.25 crore is set aside for Mangalore," he added.
Further, Khadar mentioned that in Ullal region data collection will also begin for which Rs 20 lac has been released. "Each and every detail will be recorded in the coming days. In Mangalore city ASHA workers will be appointed in large numbers and incentives pending since last November will be provided very shortly. Their wages have also been increased to Rs 2,200, out of which Rs 1,000 will be provided by the central government, Rs 1,000 by the state government and Rs 200 will be allowances," he said.
Khadar further said, "In places where the monkey disease or monkey fever has spread, around 20,000 vaccines have been supplied and already 6,000 people have been administered the vaccines."
Answering a question on Brahmakootlu tollgate issue, he said the culprits will be punished and strict action will be taken against them throught the court.
"We have to keep aside politics and solve this problem," he said.
Dakshina Kannada Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal, N S Karim, T K Sudhir and others were present for the meeting.
