Margao, Jun 22: Margao police busted a three-member gang of motorcycle thieves and recovered five motorcycles from their possession from an abandoned area, meters away from the Margao railway station.
The arrest and seizure came early Wednesday morning after the Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB) team pounced on the trio when they were found huddled near the area.
Upon questioning, the trio failed to justify their presence and could not produce any documents of the two-wheelers and their driving licences, prompting the police to take them into custody.
LIB incharge PSI Sudesh Naik informed that the trio will be subjected to interrogations to ascertain their role in lifting of two-wheelers from the city.
He provided the names of the accused as Vir Singh Rajput (21), a native of Jaipur, Jeetendra Takiya (20) from Madhya Pradesh and Ramesh Ganpat Naik (24), a native of Karwar.
The motorcycles recovered from the possession of the trio include two Hero Hondas, two Pulsars and one Scooty. Their registration numbers were provided as GA-08-B-6156, GA-03-A-5573, GA-01-P-9834, GA-01-H-2773 and Scooty GA-01-K-5561.
