Doha: Entertainment galore at MCC Dabazo musical show

Doha, Apr 27: The Konkani music buffs of Qatar were treated to a delightful musical extravaganza at Dabazo – 2014 hosted by the Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) on Friday April 25 at the Al Ghazal Club in Doha-Qatar.  

The team led by the renowed local singer, composer actor Norbert Periera and his wife Nancy Pereira, Konkani Dream Boy Rony D’Cunha, Melody Queen Anitha D'Souza and local talents of Qatar Naveen/Preema Pinto, Rupert Lobo, Vincent/Nina Fernandes, Harry Correa, Alphonse D’ Silva and Eva Wilma Pinto enthralled the audience with beautiful Konkani numbers.



The evening started with a Konkani number 'Mai Bhas Konkani' by Nobby/Nancy- Prima/Naveen, Rupert, Wilma, Vincy/Neena, followed by meaningful numbers from Norbert’s composition.  

‘Do Re Me Fa’ and ‘Sapna Sundari’ numbers were sung by Norbert Pereira. A resident of Qatar for the past three decades, Nobby as a youngster was a talented singer winning numerous singing competitions including   the coveted Konkani Natak Sabha annual singing competitions for   the solo and duet categories at the Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore.  Norbert has shared stage with renowned singers like Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’Souza, Melvyn Peris, Claud D’Souza etc and has presented his own shows in Mangalore, Mysore and Kuwait and has released 5 music albums.  Norbert’s wife Nancy Pereira a trained classical dancer and choreographer accompanied Norbert on numbers ‘Dees Ami Ashello’ and ‘Sangeetha’.

‘Prithvair Kalok’, ‘Meera Meera’, ‘Margarita’ sung by Rony D’Cunha kept the audience on their toes and set the right mood for dancing. Rony with his golden voice and excellent stage performance won the hearts of the Konkani people. He is a singer loved and admired by all, his love for Konkani language and music and his golden voice that expresses his love, are what makes him a very special singer. After successfully establishing himself as a good singer in Mangalore he is now considered as one of the best Konkani singers in the Gulf. He conquered the gathering throughout the show.

Multi-lingual singer Anitha D’souza with the numbers ‘Muzo Pothi’, and ‘Bara Soron Thera’ captivated the audience attention with her attractive stage performance. Anitha needs no introduction, she has been the ‘Singing Queen’ of the coastal Karnataka for the last few years and has presented hundreds of shows across India and abroad. 

‘Ami Tharnateh’ was sung by the local talents Alphonse, Harry, Naveen along with a dance choregraphed by Vijaya and performed by Kiran Vas, Glen Carlo, Naveen D’souza, Ashrin D’souza, Savious Crasta. ‘Chaitrai Cheduwa’ was beautifully sung by Prima Pinto and Nina Fernandes and ‘Oh Maria’ was melodiously sung by Rupert Lobo, Vincy Fernandes and Alphonse D’silva.

There were also scintillating dances by local dancers to the tunes of some of the live songs.  Anuskha Fernandes, Nadine D’souza, ‘Joyline Dmello and Jessica D’souza danced to the tunes of ‘Dees Ami Ashello’ and ‘Shethkar’ choreographed by Nancy Pereira and Affney D’souza.  Foot tapping number ‘Meera Meera’ was performed by Denzil Lobo, Mishal Lobo, Delita Roche, Jyothi Gomes, Karen Correa choreographed by Vijaya D’souza, Dance number ‘Oh Maria’ dance number was performed by Alistair Crasto, Christle Pinto, Royston Crasto, Clarissa Pinto, Ashton D’souza, Amelita Martis, Bresley Danthy, Ruth Quadros choreographed by Sweta V B. 

Winner of best music arranger and music composer awards Roshan D’souza on lead guitar, Richard Monteiro on keyboard, Sachin Sequeira on drums along with local talents Pradeep Pinto on base guitar and Manoj on percussion kept the show alive with their wonderful and foot tapping music.

Roshan D'Silva who was specially flown in from UAE compered the entire show with the charm and dynamism he is known for. He kept the show going in high spirits with his unique comedy and excellent flair over Konkani language.

Another stage attraction was actor-comedian of the “Bale Telipaale” fame Nellu Permanur and team Shawn Rodrigues and Sunil Crasta entertained the audience with their rib tickling comedy.  It was virtually a riot of laughter for the audience with a feast of catchy one-liners and side-splitting skits. Local talents Naveen D’souza, Della Rego, Naveen D'Souza Permanur joined the team on the comedy skits.

A short stage programe was held on the occasion, wherein Sunil D’silva the president of MCC welcomed the gathering. Captain Ramanan Ravi Kumar, the first defence attaché at the Indian Embassy in Qatar was the chief guest. To mark the occasion ‘Sugandh’, a souvenir was released by the chief guest. Ronald Saldanha the vice-president and founder member Jerald Dmello were present on the dais. The stage programme was ably compered by Reena Castelino, the lady advisor of the club.  Multi-talented Prabha Rego conducted the felicitations ceremony of the artistes, Fr Anand Castelino, the spiritual director of the Konkani Community at the Church of our Lady of Rosary felicitated the artists.

    Thanks MCC for the great show and another milestone to bring local talent and great singer’s together.
    Enjoyed the songs sung by Norbert, he has great talent and voice resembles like late Wilfyab.
    Rony D'cunna, Anita and local talents set stage on fire with beautiful songs and dance numbers.
    Enjoyed jokes by Nellu and team
    Professionalism of Reena and Prabha to take care of audience and the short stage program helped very much – Hats off.
