Mangalore, Apr 24: "A compensation of Rs 10 lac has already been announced for the kin of Kabeer who was shot dead by ANF near Sringeri, and is likely to reach the family shortly. As a political representative of Suratkal area (where Kabeer hails from), I request the government to give Rs 25 lac as compensation to Kabeer' family. I have discussed this with the chief minister as well," said Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava.
He was addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here on Thursday April 24.
"The investigations have already begun and the ANF trooper Naveen Nayak has also been booked for murder and other charges under sections 302, 341, 504 and 295 A of the IPC in Sringeri police station. In case there are any shortcomings in the CID report, then the case will be handed over to the CBI for further investigation,” he said.
"About four to five people who had reportedly attacked the family of Kabeer when they had gone to bring his mortal remains, have also been booked under various sections. The CID report is likely to be out in a month, but we have urged the home minister to get it done within 15 days."
He further said, "ANF trooper Naveen Nayak must be first arrested and taken into custody, and then the investigation must begin. My area (Suratkal) is declared as a communally hypersensitive area. The people of all communities here must maintain peace and harmony."
He added, "Kabeer’s sister who is unmarried has been going through mental trauma ever since his death. People who are willing to help the family by any means can come forward and do it. If those who are abroad are willing to donate, they can do so too. The account details of the family will be announced soon."
"With regard to the acute water shortage faced in some regions under my constituency, I have already discussed the issue with the DC so that immediate action can be taken. Also, special allowance and reservation for the minority students have been made available in CET," he said.
Ibrahim Kodijal, T K Sudhir, Nazeer Bajal, Suhail Kandak and others were present.
