Bangalore, Apr 20 : Industrialist Mohamed Yousuff has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the Karnataka State Wakf Board in Bangalore on Saturday.
Yousuff would continue in the office for the remaining 31 months of the five-year term of the chairman.
The new chairman was elected following resignation of Riyaz Khan, who had failed to take into confidence all members of the board.
Yousuff, resident of Bangalore, said that he would spent the amount allocated by the State government judiciously for welfare of the community members and protection of Wakf properties.
Karnataka’s Minorities Welfare, Haj and Wakf Department Minister Qamar-ul-Islam and Yousuff said that the board would fill existing vacancies for implementation of its activities.
Recruitment would be done divisional-wise with the support from the Karnataka Examination Authority, he said.
The survey work of the wakf properties would be completed by October end.
Earlier, the board has 1.32 lakh acres of land in its possession.
On account of encroachment, only 52,000 acres was in the possession of the board now, the new chairman said.
Anjaneya Commences Renovation work of Room in Vidhana Soudha

Meanwhile, State Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya, who demolished a wall between Room No. 340 and 341 on the third floor of the Vidhana Soudha in January last, has once again commenced renovation works of his chamber in Room No. 340.
A few workers have commenced the work a couple of days ago and it would be expected to completed in a few days.
In January, Anjaneya prevented entry of media personnel till the completion of the demolition work of the wall. The demolition of the wall between two chambers was flayed by the Opposition parties such as BJP and JD(S).
On Saturday, workers were found busy in laying new floor tiles in the chamber.
Old tiles were removed and newly designed tiles were laid to enhance the elegance of the chamber.
