Bantwal, Apr 16: After a mini truck illegally carrying poultry birds to Kerala tumbled at Vittal Marakkini bend in the taluk on Tuesday April 15, about 700 chickens died and fell scattered on the road.
These birds were devoured free of cost by locals thereafter.
The truck belonging to Shariff from Badiyadka was carrying 1,200 fowls loaded in 60 boxes. The truck had taken Kalladka – Kanhangad road via Adyanadka.
It is said that the truck fell by its side when it tried to negotiate the road bend at Marakkini village at high speed.
While over 500 chickens had died, about 200 more, which were found to be oscillating between life and death, were taken away by locals.
As such, the truck owner could get back only about 500 out of the 1,200 chickens in the truck. All the three occupants of the mini truck escaped with minor injuries, while the front portion of the truck suffered heavy damage.
