Udupi, Apr 13:
Former MLA Raghupati Bhat criticized the district unit of the Congress party regarding the claims made in its recently released book on development. He said that the Congress has provided false information about the grant of money to fool the people of the constituency ahead of the Parliamentary elections.

The book, ‘581 Koti Anudana Haridubaruvante Madida Sadhaneya Tiruvunota’( ‘Looking Back on the Achievement of Bringing RS 581 crore to Udupi ), was released recently by MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.

Addressing a press meet, Bhat claimed that the funds availed for the projects outlined by the Congress party were far from the truth and these projects were implemented during the tenure of the BJP. “It is surprising that the Congress party, in a short period used Rs 581 crore while the BJP managed to spend Rs 481 crore in a span of five years during its regime. By releasing the book, the Congress is making desperate efforts to bag credit for all the development work carried out by the BJP,” he added.

“‘Anna Bhagya, electrification, water supply, free power, and distribution of 10 HP pump sets to the farmers are mentioned in the book as it was implemented in the district by the Congress. However, the BJP was the party that came up with these programmes,” stressed Bhat.

Bhat challenged the opposition to accept his invitation to debate the issue. He also passed remarks on the short tenure of the Congress and questioned as to what had happened to the many projects promised in its manifesto.
