Panaji, Jun 14: The Goa government on Tuesday slashed the rates of petrol (unleaded), petrol (power) and diesel by Rs 1.19, Rs 1.23 and 59 paise per litre respectively.

An official release quoted Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane as saying that the government has decided to slash VAT rates on petrol by 3 per cent and diesel by 2 per cent.

Consequently, a litre of petrol (unleaded) in Goa will cost Rs 48.42, while the price of petrol (power) will be Rs 49.67 per litre. The price of diesel will be Rs 35.34, it said.

The VAT rate on petrol has been brought down from 25 per cent to 22 per cent and in case of diesel it has been reduced from 23 per cent to 21 per cent, it said.

The decision to reduce price of petrol and diesel would cause a loss of Rs 25.74 crore to the state exchequer. However, improved turnover and better recovery are expected to neutralise the loss, the release added.

Rajasthan not considering slashing sales tax on petrol, diesel

Rajasthan government said it is not considering reducing sales tax on petrol and diesel prices as proposed by the Centre to the Congress-ruled states in the wake of the recent hike in oil prices.

"If Congress is so concerned, Pradesh Congress Committee President B D Kalla should make an appeal to the Prime Minister or Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to cut down excise and custom duty on petrol and diesel," state Parliamentary Minister Rathore commented.
