Mangalore, Jun 13: The students of Besant English School here had a special class on the ill effects of using tobacco by Vincent Nazreth, chairman, Crusade Against Tobacco (CAT), a division of Mumbai-based NGO Neil Charitable Trust.
The children appealed to the President of India to ban tobacco in India and smoking scenes in movies. They put up banners and placards and stood united against the use of tobacco. They also demanded that sale of tobacco products near schools should be stopped.
The law makes it mandatory for tobacco sellers to refrain from selling the products to persons under the age of 18, but this rule is not followed anywhere, said Nazreth.
The students also wanted a chapter on tobacco to be included in the school curriculum.
