Sullia, Jun 13: In an incident of serial theft at Karikkal near Subrahmanya here, the thieves broke into a post office, a restaurant and a few shops and decamped with cash and valuables on Saturday June 10 night. However, they assaulted a localite who tried to stop them while fleeing.
The thieves who came in a lorry and broke into post office at Macchila near Karikkal. Though they ransacked the post office, they could lay their hands on only Rs 40 which was in the cash box. Thereafter they broke open into an adjacent hotel cum shop which is owned by one Hanif. They decamped with everything that was in the shop.
Thereafter they fled the place on the lorry. While going they also stole a tent which was erected by the roadside and a few gas cylinders. It is said that the same band of thieves tried to steal empty gas cylinders from shop at Kaniyoor. At that time a young man Ravi who was working in a STD booth tried to thwart their theft attempt. But they assaulted him owing to which he sustained injuries. Thereafter the thieves fled the place on the cargo lorry.
As they through Bellare road, they also said to have stolen two cows which were by the roadside.
The Sullia police have booked a case in this regard.
