Bantwal, Apr 4: In a shocking development that can potentially turn the future of students bleaker, it has now been revealed that the vice-principal of the government composite high school at Siddakatte in the taluk allegedly prevented two students from appearing for the ongoing SSLC examination.
It is said that the authority concerned was driven by the zeal to improve the performance of his school in taking the above action.
This action, reportedly on the part of vice-principal Babu P M, can have far reaching impact on the lives of these two students. This educational institution had registered 94 percent result last year, and the vice-principal was determined to ensure that his school clocks 100 percent result this time, it is alleged.
It is said that the vice-principal had asked six students, who were found to be not performing up to the mark in periodic examinations, against appearing for SSLC examination this year. Four among them ignored his directions and appeared for the examinations. The other two absented from the examination and began working in Moodbidri.
The family members, who grew suspicious after the students failed to appear for the first few examinations, confronted them. They got to know from them that they had been advised to stay away from the examinations. The family members and some locals then asked one of the absentee students to make a call to the vice-principal. It is said that during this conversation the teacher confessed to have prevented these students from writing the examination. The family members and some locals then went to the school and took the vice-principal to task. Some people then tried to settle the issue amicably, but their efforts did not succeed.
When contacted, block education officer of Bantwal block, Sheshashayana, said he was not aware of this incident. He promised to look into the matter and take suitable steps.
