Mangalore: Rachana to host 'Magnet' world convention on April 6

Mangalore, Apr 3: Rachana will host a one-day international convention 'Magnet-2014' on April 6 at TMA Pai International Convention Centre from 9.30 am. The event will feature 12 eminent speakers / leaders from across the world who will address and educate delegates on a wide range of entrepreneurially relevant topics from IT to green start ups.

This was announced at a press meet held at the Bishop's House on Thursday April 3. Walter D’Souza, chairman, Magnet 2014 organizing committee, Ivan D’Souza, Rachana president, Marcel Monteiro, secretary, organizing committee, John Monteiro, Rachana secretary, and Brian Fernandes, treasurer, organizing committee were present.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza will inaugurate the event, while former president of Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former chairman and CEO of Unilever (Peru) Richard Saldanha will deliver the keynote address.

Rachana will also host a mini industrial products exhibition on the same day. The Conference will culminate with an evening that will showcase Mangalorean culture and a gala dinner.

Rachana has set up a 20-member organizing committee headed by Walter D’Souza, eminent industrialist and exporter, and chairman, FIEO (Federation of Indian Export Organizations – southern region), to organize the spectacular and history creating event. The committee has Marcel Monteiro as the general secretary and includes both Rachana members and prominent citizens.

Dr M Veerappa Moily, union minister for petroleum and natural gas and forest environment inaugurated the Rachana World Convention office and released its brochure on January19 at the Bishop’s House Hall, Kodialbail. Msgr Denis Prabhu, vicar general, diocese of Mangalore, presided over the function. In order to promote the event, and inform members, delegates and the public about Rachana and Magnet – 2014, Rachana launched its website www.rachanamangalore.com on the February 16 at Kalaangann. The website contains all the required details of the spectacular event, besides information on Rachana’s activities.

Mangalore’s entrepreneurial talent is legendary. Mangaloreans have used their talent and their inherent perseverance to build businesses across the globe from West Asia to the Americas, and from Europe to Australia. With this convention, Rachana’s endeavours to provide a platform for these global business leaders, industrialists and businessmen hailing from the coastal districts, to meet and build a dynamic and mutually beneficial business interaction.


Objectives of Magnet - 2014

- Provide a platform for a mutually beneficial business interaction between Mangalorean businessmen and Entrepreneurs across the world
- Create an awareness of the potential for international business and motivate catholic entrepreneurs to think big
- Boost B2B and B2C trade through an exhibition of products and services
- Provide the impetus, motivation and support for 100 new catholic entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses.
- Create a corpus for a "Rachana Venture Capital Fund" and the "Rachana Industrial Credit Cooperative Society" to boost entrepreneurship in Mangalore.


The significance of Magnet – 2014 lies in the following:

- It's chance for budding and existing entrepreneurs to learn from, and interact with successful Entrepreneurs / leaders from across the globe
- It’s an opportunity to be a part of the first of its kind event and make history.
- It’s designed to create a hand holding mechanism for budding entrepreneurs.


Members of the organizing committee visited the Middle East, Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore and other parts of India to drum up support for the event and their efforts have paid off handsomely. Magnet has received support in the form of delegations from many entrepreneurially relevant organizations like the Christian Chamber of Commerce, Mumbai, Dimensions, Mumbai, Karnataka Entrepreneurs Global, Dubai and Bangalore, and many other like minded organizations. The Event is already on the road to becoming a grand success, with over 500 delegates already registered and more expected in the days to come. Rachana is fully geared up to host this first of its kind spectacular event in Mangalore on April 6, stated a media release.
