Udupi, Apr 2: In a quick operation, Kaup police on Wednesday April 2 seized ten buffaloes and a cow that were being illegally transported to Talapady from Kota for sale.
The animals were being transported in a Tata 909 vehicle. The police stopped the vehicle at Koppalangady and arrested two persons in this regard.
The Kaup police led by inspector Rajendra Naik arrested Puttur resident Zainulla Abid (28), the driver of the vehicle and Kasargod resident Mohammed A (54).
Police are investigating whether the cattle were stolen or were being taken for slaughter after buying.
The animals were being transported in a merciless manner due to lack of space and a buffalo died during transport due to suffocation.
The vehicle was loaded with vegetables to avoid suspicion. When the vehicle was stopped by the police the accused tried to mislead the police by saying that they were transporting vegetables.
A picture of Shivaji was hung in front of the vehicle and his name was written as 'Raja Shivaji'. Pictures of Trishul and 'Bhagawadwaja' were also hung there. The vehicle had two number plates of Puttur and Maharashtra registration.
The animals were taken to Neelavara goshala. The arrested were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
