Chennai, April 2 (IANS): Director Chimbu Devan, who has predominantly made comedies so far, prefers making films in the genre because he feels they are highly effective in bringing forth any story to the audience.
"You can even make any controversial story into a film with comedy. It's a very effective genre when it comes to storytelling because it guarantees entertainment and can be used to address any story," Devan told IANS.
Known for Tamil comedies such as "Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi", "Arai En 305-el Kadavul" and "Irumbukottai Murattu Singam", Chimbu's forthcoming release "Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum" is also a comedy.
"My first two films were historical and social satires laced with comedy, while the third film was out-and-out cowboy comedy. I addressed several sensitive issues in these films without ever trying to be controversial. That's the biggest advantage of the comedy genre," he added.
"Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavaniyum", which releases Friday, emphasizes on time in our lives.
"I'm focusing on the importance of time in our lives. I have dealt with the time concept in the most unique way. There's a lot of comedy but the focus will be on time," he said.
The film features Arulnithi, Bindu Madhavi, Ashrita Shetty and Bagavathi Perumal in important roles.
