Kasargod: Journalist assaulted by group in broad daylight

Kasargod, Apr 1: A group is said to have assaulted a journalist in broad daylight here on Sunday March 30.

The victim, A P Vinod (43), a reporter with Malayalam daily 'Tejus' was admitted to Kasargod general hospital.

The reporter was on his way to his office at Kasargod after covering the election campaign of left wing election candidate P Karunakaran at Manjeshwar, when a group has assaulted him at KPR Rao road.

Vinod stopped at a shop to buy water when a person snatched Rs 300 that was with him. Vinod caught hold of the man and questioned him, and arguments arose between them. After this, Vinod started walking back to his office, when a group chased and assaulted him.

The police who arrived on receiving information from the locals took Vinod to the hospital. 

A case has been registered against four persons and police are on the lookout for them.

It is said that the goonda menace has increased in the city and people are living in fear.  Robberies have become common even during the day and locals have urged the police to take strict action.

Kasargod Press Club condemned the assault on Vinod.

    People even fight for Rs 300/- but foregone 300 Crores of scams in various Ministry. But luckily this time no Party vengeance. Anyhow, Get Well Soon Vinod, but pls don’t fight for Rs 300/- with goons next time
