Mangalore: Dowry harassment - Woman driven out of house, nine booked

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 31:  In a case of alleged dowry harassment, a woman was driven out of their home by her husband and his family within a year of her marriage. The incident occurred at Handelu in Moodbidri near here, and the police have registered a case against nine persons belonging to the family of the lady’s in-laws, including the woman’s husband.

Nazeer Hussain

The accused have been named in the complaint as Nazeer Hussain (husband), his father, H A Khader, mother, Bifathima, Khader’s sisters, Zubaida, Khateeja, Sauda Banu, Nazeer’s brothers-in-law, Ibrahim Ulayibettu, Sulaiman, and Basheer. All of them face charges under different sections of law pertaining to dowry harassment.

Abdul Khader from Kinnikambla here had married off his daughter to Nazeer Hussain residing near Handelu mosque, on July 4, 2013 at Kaikamba. Reportedly, at the time of marriage, dowry in the form of 65 sovereigns of gold, and a sum of Rs 3 lac in cash had been handed over to the groom as agreed. The boy, who was employed in a foreign country, is learnt to have stayed back in his native place after marriage instead of going back to work. He is accused of meting out torture to his wife constantly, pressurizing her to bring more dowry. He received full support in this act from his parents, sisters, and brother-in-law, it is said.

Angered by the fact that the woman did not heed to their demand for more dowry, she was driven out by her husband’s family on February 28 this year. The local police have booked her husband and eight others.

Main accused Nazeer Hussain, it is gathered, has absconded fearing police action. The police have begun detailed investigation into the case.

Why blame the idiotic man if the girl's stupid parents are prepared to pay the 65 sovereigns of gold, and a sum of Rs 3 lac in cash to begin with.

Today marriage is a business, everyone benefits, the pundit, priest, mullah, the music provider, the hall provider, the caterer, the transport provider, the list is endless and not forgetting the final and most benefited of all the groom and his family.

And mind you its competitive if Tony gave 1 crore in dowry for his daughter, then I have to give 1.5 crore for my daughter's dowry.

In time this dowry problem will only get worse because all of us are such fekus we slog all our lives to give it all away and to someone who do not deserve such benefits.

We must educate our children, girls and boys and make them independent and self sufficient that would be the best dowry.

Shame on this guy who lives and loves dowry.
Indain act/law forbids to take dowry. She should have filed FIR against him or Zero Fir at any police station.
Marriage is a bond of Love that builds family, which doesn't need dowry but Blessings.
A true husband/wife lives with love and set a good example to the children and society.
This guy will go behind the bars according to the Indian dowry law.

Dowry act just doesn't forbid only taking dowry..
For ur kind information it also forbids giving dowry in any materialistic form in cash or kind...
and how confirmed are you that the guy and his family has taken dowry..
Nowadays lawyers pin prick their clients for any reason to resort to domestic violence on women and Dowry cases to extort money from the family of the guy..
now havng a boy in the family is big issue compared to girl in a home..
coz girls can screw any guy in any false cases just like that..
which might take yrs to come to a solution...

Wolves are everywhere and in every religion. We need to drag them out from our society. But the problem is can they do that to this person because if they do so, this poor lady end up on the road or divorce, both are not good for her future life

oof!65 sovereigns and 3 lakh rupees in the form of dowry for this labour class working in Gulf. The parents of the girl could have been looked for the boy who works in native or sourced a small shop for their livelihood instead of this whopping amount of cash or kind in the form of dowry for this greedy crocodile. These namesake Muslims doesn't have place even in hell after their death.

    Dear Mr. Henry misquith, Bahrain
Actually where the dowry is demanded those cases go un-noticed...
Whereas nowadays girls only file false dowry cases for their profit gain...
one who really suffers these false dowry cases knows the pain...I personally know a family who has gone through such an agony and pain...the girl filed a false case of dowry to extort money from the husband's family...because she was having a support from a political background.

Although there are so many dowry harassment cases brought to light earlier, still these sick minded/greedy people are continuing to harass the innocent women. This crazy husband instead of going abroad and earning for his family stayed back to extract more dowry, he should be punished first, along with his family so called money minded family members. What will happen to the poor, middle class people, how can they settle their daughters if these sick rogues are existing in our society. Severe punishment should be given so that the others may not continue to do such crimes in the future.

This type of marriages should be banned by the community. The Qazi who reads or registers the Nikha should ensure that the groom does not accept any dowry. Or else the community leaders should take action to boycott this family in the society.

How cruel and inhumane act!!.This lust so called greed for money, put almost all girls from middle class and poor family in a fix.In spite of law banning accepting dowry still the practice is in practice.Whoever may it be,those who are torturing, harassing the girls in the name of dowry first to be hanged once it is proved. The so called filthy dowry system of rich/elite segments in the society, made many girls from the poor, middle class family to remain spinsters. This ill practice is being originated from rich people, the same practice is being followed by others,at the cost of their capacity in the best interest of their daughter's future.I condemn this practice, but nobody in the society will raise their question in this regards. The incident what had happened as per the article above,is totally unacceptable and inhumane, animal act.
