Doha, Mar 29: It is easy to make one cry, but it requires special talent and effort to bring tears of laughter to one’s eyes. ‘Team Prashamsa’, from Kaup comprising Sandeep Shetty, Merwin Aranha, Prasanna Shetty Bailoor and Sharath Kumar are indeed blessed with this special talent. ‘Team Prashamsa’, the winners of Bale Telipaale have received a lot of appreciation and applause from all quarters following their stunning performances that made them to stand head and shoulders above the rest and walk away with the winners’ trophy at Bale Telipaale.
They again proved that they are indeed one of the best in the business when it comes to creating riot of laugh through their dazzling performance at Bunts Qatar’s annual day celebrations. The annual event of Bunts Qatar that brings the community together to celebrate their unity and identity was held at the Al Maha Academy here on Friday March 28 evening.
It was virtually a riot of delight as Sandeep, Merwin and Prasanna sent the audience into peals of laughter with their rib-tickling comedy. The audience had hilarious time-out on weekend as ‘Team Prashamsa’ dished out a sumptuous feast of catchy one-liners and side-splitting skits. By the end ‘Team Prashamsa’ had presented their last skit of the evening the audience had shared belly laughs that brought tears of laughter to their eyes and left them dazed with a heavy dose of thigh-slappers.
Earlier the evening began with the introduction of compere of the evening versatile and multi talented Dr Padmashree Shetty by Akshatha Hegde, the cultural secretary of Bunts Qatar which was followed by melodious songs by guests artistes Anitha D'Souza and Prahlad Bhat who were specially flown in to enrich the annual day celebrations from Mangalore.
The chief guests, guests of honour and audience were accorded a warm welcome to the evening through a spectacular welcome dance by Bunts Qatar members. The dance set to the tunes of popular songs in praise of Lord Ganesha was presented by talented Bunt kids and ladies. The dance was choreographed by Dimple, Chaitali Shetty, Chaitali Suhas and Akshaya Shetty while Dhanlakshmi Rai and Shilpa Shetty assisted in arranging the props that enriched the dance.
While Team Prashamsa was the show-stoppers of the evening, the visiting singers Anitha D’Souza and Prahlad Bhat too stole the hearts of the audience with their melodious singing. Anitha D’Souza needs no introduction. She is the ‘Singing Queen’ of the coastal Karnataka for the last few years and has presented hundreds of shows across India and even abroad. A multi-lingual singer of great repute, Anitha also brings special attraction to the stage through her wonderful stage presence which captivates the audience. Prahlad Bhat too is a popular name in the coastal Karnataka and a heartthrob of female audience. He can belt foot-tapping, up-tempo numbers as well as romantic, soothing songs with equal ease. Together the two-piece band of Anitha and Prahlad had the audience storming to the dance floor asking for more.
A short stage programme was held during which the third ‘Seva Sampada’ award was conferred on Shreedhar Nayak for his outstanding community service in Qatar. Accepting the award, Shreedhar Nayak thanked Bunts Qatar for recognizing his services and honouring him. Tulu Koota Qatar president Seetharam Shetty introduced Shreedhar Nayak to the gathering.
Popular Kannada writer, columnist, activist and a well-known Bunt Dr Narendra Rai Derla was the chief guest of the evening. He was honoured by Buts Qatar president Ravi Shetty on the occasion. In his address, Dr Rai appreciated the efforts of Bunts Qatar in uniting people of all sections of the society in Qatar and hailed them as vanguards of communal harmony. He lamented the untoward happenings that have damaged the secular fabric of coastal Karnataka over the last few years and urged everyone to foster love and patience that can unite people from all walks of life.
Earlier Bunts Qatar president Ravi Shetty and vice-president Prakashchandra Ajila escorted the chief guest Dr Narendra Rai Derla to the dais. Bunts Qatar general secretary Navneeth Shetty, cultural secretary Akshatha Hegde were also present on the dais. President Ravi Shetty delivered the keynote address. All the visiting artistes, Bunts Qatar kids and ladies who presented the welcome dance were presented with mementoes.
Young Pranav Shetty who has achieved great success in the extra-curricular activities too was honoured with a memento on the occasion.
Mangalore Cricket Club president Sunil D’Silva, Tulu Koota Qatar president Seetharam Shetty, Karnataka Sangha Qatar president Deepak Shetty,Sudhir Kumar OHL of Qatar Billawas, SKMS president Abdul Majeed, former president of Tulu Koota Qatar and ICBF committee member and Tulu Koota past president Ramchandra Shetty, ICBF secretary Arvind Patil, past president of KSQ V S Mannagi, Arun Kumar and other prominent community leaders, office-bearers and members of various Karnataka-based associations in Qatar too were present on the occasion.
Dr Padmashree Shetty did a commendable job by compering the entire event and holding it together with her mastery over language, impeccable stage presence and mass appeal. Akshatha Hegde proposed the vote of thanks.
The eventful evening came to an end with a sumptuous and delicious dinner served by Royal Udupi restaurant.
