Bangalore, Jun 9: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Friday called on Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi and was with him for over an hour.

The party sources termed it as courtsey call. Gowda drove away after the meeting without talking to the waiting newsmen.

The Meeting assumed significance since Gowda was waging war against the controversial Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMIC). He reportedly discussed with the governor about the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises, which was entrusted the BMIC project and the State government contemplating to bring in a legislation to takeover the alleged excess land acquired from the project developer.

The former Prime Minister had said that he will not stop his war against the Project to protect the interests of farmers who have lost their lands. He had also written letter to Karnataka governor on the issue in the past registering his protest against the project.

Our political correspondent adds:

The courtesy call on the governor by former PM Gowda has attained significance, esp in view of the absence of his on and current CM of the state H D Kumaraswamy who is away on a 3-day tour of the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman. He is expected back only after visiting the Sultanate of Oman on June 12.
